About IoT Portal

IoTPortal is independent field intelligence for connected systems: a UK-first reference for the people who design, deploy and maintain professional, industrial and infrastructure IoT.

What IoTPortal is

IoTPortal is an independent technical publication covering the full stack of professional IoT connectivity, from cellular and satellite networks to routers, antennas, eSIM, edge computing and industrial deployment. It is written for engineers, network managers, system integrators and technical decision-makers in the UK and Europe.

The focus is deliberately narrow. This is a site about industrial and infrastructure IoT, not consumer gadgets or smart-home reviews. That means the questions it answers are the ones that come up on real projects: which radio suits which job, how a technology behaves in the field, what a standard actually changes, and what a specification means once it is installed rather than on a datasheet.

What we cover

Content is organised into topic hubs, each built around cornerstone explainers with supporting articles and news. The main areas are:

Connectivity4G, 5G, LTE-M, NB-IoT, RedCap and UK networks
eSIM & SIMeUICC, SGP.32, roaming and multi-network SIM
Hardware & DevicesRouters, gateways, modules, antennas and sensors
Edge & AIEdge computing, AIoT, platforms and data
Industrial IoTOT, SCADA, MQTT and unified namespace
SecurityDevice hardening, OT security and regulation
NTN & SatelliteNon-terrestrial networks and satellite IoT
AgricultureConnected farming across the full network stack

Alongside these you will find sector coverage under Industries, from smart cities to EV charging and energy, plus daily IoT news and a glossary for quick reference. Cornerstone guides such as Non-Terrestrial Networks and Satellite IoT and IoT eSIM and SGP.32 show the depth the site aims for.

How we work

IoTPortal is built on a simple editorial position: be useful to the person doing the work, and be honest about what the evidence supports.

  • Independent. IoTPortal is not owned by, or aligned with, any vendor, network operator or reseller. No brand is promoted for its own sake. When a specific product is named, it is because it earns its place on technical merit.
  • Primary sources. Load-bearing claims are checked against original references such as 3GPP and GSMA specifications, Ofcom and NCSC publications, NIST guidance and manufacturer datasheets, rather than repeated from other sites.
  • No affiliate links. There are no affiliate links in IoTPortal articles. Recommendations are editorial, not commercial.
  • UK-first. Coverage uses UK bands, UK operators and UK regulation as the default frame, with European context where it matters.
  • Date-stamped. Anything that can go stale, such as pricing, availability or network status, is marked with the date it was accurate, because this field moves quickly.
  • Practical. Depth is preferred over volume. The test for every article is whether it would help someone specifying, installing or troubleshooting a real deployment.

Who writes IoTPortal

Contribute and stay in touch

IoTPortal welcomes technically substantive contributions from people working in the field. If you have field notes, a deployment lesson or an explainer that would help other engineers, you can propose it through the submission page. Contributed pieces are held to the same standards as everything else: independent, sourced and useful.
