A Teltonika order code changed under you and the culprit is a part called the ALA440-1E1. Here is what it is, which routers are affected as of August 2026, the one technical change that actually matters, and why more of the range may follow.

Teltonika Networks is swapping the cellular modem inside two of its most widely deployed entry-level 4G routers. The old module, a Quectel EC200A-EU, is being replaced by an in-house assembled Teltonika module: the ALA440-1E1. The change is documented in two official Product Change Notifications and rolls out gradually from Q1 2026.

The routers themselves look and behave the same. The physical design is unchanged, the LTE performance class is unchanged, and for the overwhelming majority of deployments nothing needs to happen. But two things are worth knowing: the order codes change, and one legacy 3G band is dropped.

What is the ALA440-1E1?

The ALA440-1E1 is Teltonika’s own-branded LTE Cat 4 module. Teltonika describes it simply as an “in-house assembled LTE module” and gives the reason as improving control over its supply chain. Previously these routers used the Quectel EC200A-EU, a third-party Cat 4 module. Teltonika now assembles its own module in place of buying a finished third-party one, and has published a full set of AT command manuals for the ALA440-1E1 on its wiki, so it is a documented, first-class part rather than an unsupported rebadge.

Which routers are affected (as at August 2026)?

Right now the modem swap applies to two models only. Each has its own PCN and a different order-code prefix change. Note that 4G LTE support is identical before and after on both models.

Both notifications describe a transition period during which the existing hardware version stays orderable through your sales manager, and both versions ship in parallel, until the change completes and only the new code is manufactured. If you run other Teltonika models, check that model’s own PCN page rather than assuming, because no other product has been notified for this specific swap yet.

The one change that matters: 3G WCDMA Band 5 is dropped

The supported LTE bands are unchanged. The only radio difference is in the legacy 3G fallback. On the new ALA440-1E1 modules, WCDMA (3G) Band 5 (850 MHz) is removed. Everything else stays.

Read this carefully. Only 3G Band 5 is affected. 4G LTE Band 5 (850 MHz) is retained, so you are not losing 850 MHz on 4G, only on 3G fallback. In the UK, with 3G networks already switched off, this is a non-issue for most deployments. In regions still leaning on 3G 850 as the safety net beneath thin 4G coverage, validate a physical sample before committing stock.

Firmware: the new modem needs a recent RutOS baseline

Devices built with the ALA440-1E1 require RutOS 07.12.3 or newer (RUT2M_R_00.07.12.3 for the RUT200, RUT9M_R_00.07.12.3 for the RUT901). Custom firmware built on an older SDK is not supported on the new hardware. If you flash your own images or pin firmware versions across a fleet, this is the item to test first: build against the current SDK, confirm the modem initialises, then roll out.

State of play, and why more models may follow

Two models today does not mean two models forever. The ALA440-1E1 is the first entry-level slot Teltonika has moved to its own assembled module, and the stated logic, controlling the supply chain, is not model-specific. It is reasonable to expect the approach to spread across more of the entry-tier range over time.

The wider backdrop makes that more likely, not less. Expect the direction of travel, not necessarily the specific part, to repeat.

The wider picture: what modems Teltonika actually uses

Teltonika has never been a single-vendor shop. Across the range it mixes Quectel, Telit and now its own in-house module, chosen by connectivity tier. This is the picture as at August 2026. A caveat up front: Teltonika does not publish an exact module part number for every SKU, and the module can vary by hardware revision and regional order code. The insight for buyers is that “a Teltonika router” is not one modem platform, it is a tiered portfolio with different silicon underneath each band. The in-house ALA440 sits at the highest-volume, most cost-sensitive end, which is precisely where owning the module pays back fastest. Is this a “European” modem now?

This is the question doing the rounds, so it is worth being precise. Teltonika’s own wording is narrow: the ALA440-1E1 is an “in-house assembled LTE module” adopted “to improve control over supply chain.” That is a sourcing statement. Moving from a bought-in third-party module to one Teltonika assembles itself does shift more of the value and control in-house, and Teltonika is a Lithuania-based manufacturer, so it is fair to read this as part of a broader reduce-third-party-dependency direction.

What Teltonika has not published, and what you should therefore avoid claiming, is the specific baseband silicon inside the ALA440 or any formal country-of-origin or “Made in EU” designation for the module. Those are not in the notifications. If origin matters for your tender or compliance case, get it in writing from your Teltonika contact rather than inferring it from the fact that the module is Teltonika-branded.
