Queclink GL330MG Brings eDRX 'Smart Ping' to Freight and Asset Tracking
The rechargeable, installation-free tracker targets HGVs, trailers, cargo and loose equipment, and leans on extended eDRX to stay dormant yet reachable on demand.
Queclink has launched the GL330MG, a rechargeable, installation-free tracker for freight, trailers, cargo and equipment. Its Smart Ping feature uses enhanced eDRX to keep the device dormant yet reachable, so a platform can pull a location on demand. Queclink targets up to two months of field operation between charges.

A tracker built around on-demand reachability
Queclink Wireless Solutions has launched the GL330MG, a rechargeable tracker aimed at freight and logistics work: heavy goods vehicles, trailers, cargo and loose equipment. The pitch is not raw positioning accuracy but power management. The device is designed to run for up to two months in a supply-chain setting without a charge, while still answering a location request from a platform within a useful window.
That combination of long dormancy and on-demand reachability is the point of the product, and it rests on one connectivity feature.
What Smart Ping actually does
Battery trackers usually force a trade-off. Keep the radio continuously attached and responsive, and the battery drains in days. Drop the device into a deep sleep state such as PSM, and it saves power but becomes unreachable until its next scheduled report. Neither is ideal when an operator needs to locate a specific trailer or pallet right now.
Queclink's answer, branded Smart Ping, uses enhanced eDRX (Extended Discontinuous Reception). eDRX lets a device stay registered to the network while stretching the interval at which it listens for downlink messages, from fractions of a second out to minutes or longer. The radio sleeps for most of that window, but the network still holds the connection, so a platform can queue a command, such as fetch a position, and the device acts on it when it next wakes. Vernon Bonser, International Sales Director at Queclink, describes it as keeping the tracker "asleep to save power, but reachable when the platform needs a location".

Where it fits in Queclink's freight line-up
The GL330MG sits below the hard-wired end of Queclink's 2026 freight range. Earlier this year the company launched the GV651 and the GV650MG, both rugged, permanently wired trailer units with large backup batteries and, in the GV650MG's case, Open CAN access to trailer subsystems. Those are for operators who own the asset and can fit hardware to it.
The GL330MG takes the opposite approach. Because it needs no wiring, it can be dropped into a load, attached to equipment, or moved between short-term rental vehicles and owner-driver resources without any permanent modification. That makes it a tool for tracking the cargo and the container rather than the vehicle's electrical system.
For UK logistics operators, the appeal is the awkward middle: assets that move, that you cannot or will not wire in, and that you still need to find on request rather than on a fixed timetable. Whether the two-month figure holds in the field will depend on reporting frequency and how often platforms actually ping the device, but the design target is clear.
